According to leilol, project leader, in the OpenArena official forums, version 0.8.1 will be a reality soon, because at the moment there's no official OpenArena package. But
there's a bunch of things we now know:
- As the main new, TRaK's texture packages and the maps schism_b2 and q3dm6ish_v2 will not be in this version, unless someone takes them and do the retexturing work. This is the only item that doesn't show in the plan, but it's mention is important because it implied v0.8.0 dropping down.
- Binaries will remain in the same protocol v0.8.0 is. (If I'm not wrong, it is 70)
- There will be 'legacy' binaries, based on 0.7.1 code, which also will be using the old 68 protocol. It is worth o mention that these binaries will not be supported oficially. Discussion is rounding in including or not these binaries in the game itself or a separate package.
- Hitsounds will be redone.
- Sorceress will got a default skin.
- More maps and things will come with this version.
Personally I hope that version will be released soon, because there's a lot of players leaving the game, and it makes me sad to see that servers empty. :/
