OpenArena es un juego de la rama de los First-Person Shooters (juego de disparo en primera persona) gratis y open-source, es decir, el juego puede descargarse gratuita y legalmente de la web, y su código está abierto para que todo el mundo pueda modificarlo. Está basado en el motor gráfico Id Tech 3, el mismo que ostentaron juegos como Quake III: Arena y Return To Castle Wolfenstein, y que fue liberado en 2005 bajo la licencia GPL. El juego, por su parte, se distribuye libremente bajo la licencia GPL2.
